Brand design and launch project for hair salon, magazine and haircare product range.

We created a new brand identity, sub-brands and complementary materials for a hair and beauty salon business. We also designed their client magazine, salon product range, training materials and signage.

Overview

Spotlight salon is a city centre hair salon with big plans. Moving from ‘just a hair salon’ into a wider market place with the objective of creating a broad brand that covered everything from hair, beauty and cosmetics through to training and similar industry investments.

The CHallenge

We were tasked with creating a new brand identity that would both position the brand as more professional in appearance for the core business and also enable the company to diversify their service and product offering.

It was important that the main brand was strong, clear and impactful, as was the desire to have a stylish and timeless appearance.

In addition, the new identity had to be flexible enough to work across a number of sub-brands that were to be developed in the future. There were up to six such service areas that the company were looking to introduce such a care, beauty, cosmetics and beauty.

The solution

Our initial research and strategy development process led us to the design of the main core identity that centred around a logotype utilising a modern serif typeface.

The application of a monochrome base colour palette and appropriate gradients where required facilitated the addition of a strong, golden yellow feature hero colour.

This single highlight is consistently used above the ‘i’ of the brand name to add interest and individuality – everything the brand stands for.

This design element works perfectly across the wide range of applications and the flexibility of the colour scheme allows the identity to work strongly in both full colour on white or reversed out of any background required.

Results

The completed identity was applied in a short space of time to a great response – both internally and externally, gaining media and industry attention.

The impact of the new identity allowed the company to push their diversification with the support of a strong, new brand behind them and their entry into new markets would not have been possible without the use of a stylish brand that truly represents the company mission and brand ethos.

The stylish, consistent and carefully formatted use of the new brand echoes the very essence of the organisation.
