Brand development, design support and launch project for online retailer.

We created a new brand identity, full supporting promotional literature, point of sale materials and online presence for The Rustic Trading Co. at the time of launch for this new online retailer.

Overview

The Rustic Trading Co. offer a collection of authentically handcrafted rustic homewares as well as some salvaged pieces for stylish customers searching for an alternative to mass produced products for their home.

The CHallenge

We were called upon to create a new brand identity ahead of the launch of the business. The client wanted a vintage, rustic style that was also suitable for the modern marketplace.

Entering a highly competitive sector, it was important that the new identity would differentiate the brand other online retailers and that the initial feel was warm yet established.

The solution

Following comprehensive industry and target customer research, we began with an existing vintage-style typeface and then made a number of adjustments in order to form the basis for the identity.

Using a typographical execution in a number of layout styles and together with the application of an optional scratched ring border, this enabled the identity to work across a range of media. The identity was then applied to a range of physical items including stationery, POS materials, marketing literature, social support, email marketing etc.

In addition, we created a comprehensive ecommerce website to enable the brand to begin both trading and scaling online from the outset.

Results

The completed identity and brand positioning support allowed the new ecommerce business to quickly enter the marketplace armed with all the necessary brand elements. The firm gained traction online and grew sales through a range of activities that were supported by the initial brand development process.

The environmental credentials of the brand were additionally enhanced through the use of recycled and FSC certified materials in printed literature. The consistency of brand application greatly supported the brand launch and ongoing growth of the business.
